One year later

It really is hard to believe that a year has already gone by.  Before Lily was born, Tim and I spent months and months just wondering what she was going to be like, who she was going to look like, and longing for the days that we could just hold her in our arms.  All of our hopes and dreams could never have lived up to what we have been given.  Lily is more beautiful, more sweet, more loving, and more fun that I could ever have imagined.  She brings joy to the ordinary, surprise to the obvious, and challenge around each and every corner.  She's persistent, she's funny, she's smart, she's strong, she's resourceful, and she is oh. so. curious.  She is a little bit of me and a little bit of Tim, but has a blossoming new personality that is all her own.  We are truly blessed.  Thank you, Lil, for a wonderful year and HAPPY BIRTHDAY!

Your birth day last year...6:18 pm.

Your birthday this year!

I took a picture of Lily in her rocking chair this morning. She now climbs in and out of the chair herself.  It's too cute.  She will sometimes sit there and rock for a minute, well, maybe more like 10 seconds.  She is a busy girl :).  We will be celebrating Lil's birthday tomorrow with our families. I cannot wait to see what she thinks about cake.  We've been trying to test out her sweet tooth lately.  So far, she likes frozen yogurt, snow cones, and cherry icee, so I am thinking she is going to like cake and icing.  More to come!

Me and my girl

Lily has got a smile that can light up a room.  It simply melts my heart and fills me with pride to see her so happy.  Here is a picture of the two of us from the beach last week.  I love it because she is mid- clap, and she just has the biggest little grin on her face.  She is also wearing an outfit that once belonged to none other than me!  My mom held on to a few of her favorites and I have been able to dress Lily in some of them.  This one is the sweetest little romper that has a little yellow flower embroidered on the top.

My dad

is kind.  He is loving.  He is humble.  He is honest.  He is smart.  He is a hard worker.  He tells a great story.  He is always there to offer advice.  He can tackle most any home improvement project.  He has taught me the value of a dollar.  He would do anything for his family.  I am lucky to be your daughter Dad, and I love you.  Happy Father's Day!

There is certainly a special connection between dads and their daughters.  I see that now more than ever.  Something about a baby girl just softens a man's heart.  Yesterday, I overheard Tim reading a book to Lily, and there was a tenderness in his voice that made me smile as I listened.  I am certain he didn't realize it, but I did.  And, since Lily cannot actually tell you how lucky she is to be your daughter...I will.  She is one lucky little girl.  Happy 1st Father's Day.

Needed: Window Washer

Lily is quite the little explorer these days.  We travel around the house room by room pulling up on the furniture, opening doors and drawers, and pulling out the contents.  One of her favorite spots seems to be the bathroom.  I like to say that she is taking inventory.  No way she is going to let me run out of her baby wash or shampoo.  Two things that I have realized from all this exploring are 1) the house is no where near baby-proofed and 2) the house is not as clean as I thought it was!  Lily seems to find these nooks and crannies that I have never even thought about cleaning.  I would like to say I am a good housekeeper, but Lily is trying to prove me wrong.
Last night, Lily was patiently waiting by the door for her dad to stop talking on the phone and come inside.  Check out her reflection.  You can the sheer excitment on her face.  It also looks as if I need to break out the Windex (refer to point #2 above).

I did it

So, every couple of weeks for the past year, I've been telling Tim that I was thinking about starting a blog. He always says to go for it. Again this morning, we had the same conversation. For some reason today, I decided to actually do it. Maybe the start of the new year prompted me? Anyways, here it is!
